Dental Crowns & Bridges
What are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap”. This is cemented over your tooth, affixed on a dental implant or placed in a dental bridge. The cap looks and functions like your natural tooth. A dental crown can be made of ceramic, porcelain, gold and porcelain fused to metal. Crowns made of ceramic and porcelain can be color matched to match the shade of your surrounding teeth.
Porcelain crowns fused to metal are a popular choice by dentists. The metal makes them extremely strong and durable, while the porcelain can be made to look like your natural tooth. A strong yet attractive option.
Why do I Need a Crown?
- Replace a filling
- Cover a dental implant
- Change the size, shape and color of a tooth
- After root canal treatment
- Protect a weak tooth (decay, cracked)
- Hold a dental bridge in place
What is a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridges fill in the gaps, or bridge the gap, for our patients with missing teeth in a safe, natural-looking way. Bridges are milled to fit precisely between healthy teeth with one or more custom created crowns attached to the bridge. The bridge is affixed to the healthy teeth so that the crown(s) in the middle replaces the missing tooth. The result is a beautiful smile and healthy mouth, built to last!
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
- Bridges and crowns restore a clean, full, beautiful smile
- Missing teeth can cause shifting of healthy teeth along with possible bone loss and jaw shrinkage
- Missing teeth put you at an increased risk for periodontal
- Solid foods become more difficult to eat over time with missing teeth
- Gaps in teeth could lead to changes in speech
