Tooth Extractions

Why Might You Need a Tooth Extraction?

There are several reasons why a tooth may need to be removed, including:

The Tooth Extraction Process

Thanks to modern advancements in anesthesia and sedation, tooth extractions are now more comfortable than ever. Before the procedure begins, a local anesthetic will be used to numb your gums, jaw, and the affected tooth.

Once the area is completely numb, the surrounding socket will be gently expanded, allowing the tooth to be carefully removed from the ligament holding it in place. The entire process typically takes just a few minutes. While you may feel some pressure, there should be no pain, and minimal bleeding is expected.

Following the extraction, patients will bite down on a gauze pad to help form a natural clot and control bleeding. Mild swelling is normal, and pain medication or an ice pack may be recommended to ease any discomfort. Over time, your remaining teeth may shift slightly, and in some cases, a dental implant may be suggested to restore function and aesthetics.
